show Abstracthide AbstractSequencing of single-cell amplified genomes from uncultured lineages of freshwater bacteria to use as reference genomes for metagenome and metatranscriptome data. Lake microbes fix and respire large quantities of CO2, quench methane produced in sediments, and sequester carbon in biomass, yet we know little about the key players and how they accomplish these critical ecosystem services. These genomes are derived from lineages known to be abundant and prevalent in freshwater lakes, focusing on major Actinobacteria and Verrucomicrobia lineages with a scarcity of cultured representatives, in order to better understand their roles in the community.
